Get the SRT from the same generate as the MP3
CapCut cannot guess which voice take you meant. If you regenerated the hook and kept yesterday’s SRT, every caption will sit on the wrong word. Enable SRT in Shorts Voice Studio before you hit Generate, then download both files together.
- Name them as a pair: tip03-upi.mp3 and tip03-upi.srt
- Keep the .srt extension — CapCut looks for that
- Use UTF-8 if the script is Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, or Bengali
- Stay under 700 characters per generate so one SRT covers one take
Example: a 22-second UPI tip. You generate once, get both files, drop the MP3 first, then import that exact SRT. If the hook felt slow and you regenerated, throw both old files away. Mixing files is the #1 sync bug on this page.
What a CapCut-ready SRT looks like
Each cue is a number, a start --> end timestamp, then one or two short lines. If your editor smashed the file into one paragraph, CapCut will import garbage or refuse the file. Fix line breaks in Notepad / TextEdit before you import.

That sample is the shape CapCut wants: short lines, commas in timestamps, blank line between cues. You do not need styling inside the SRT. Font, outline, and position happen after import.
How to import an SRT file in CapCut (desktop)
Desktop CapCut is the reliable path. Menu names move between versions, so look for Captions or Text, then an import / captions file action — not Auto captions.
- Create a 9:16 project if this is a Short, Reel, or TikTok cut
- Drop the matching MP3 on the timeline first (audio before captions)
- Build or place your B-roll so you can see faces and UI you must not cover
- Open Captions or Text in the left / top toolbar
- Choose Import captions (or Import SRT / Upload captions — same job)
- Pick the .srt that shares a name with the MP3 on the timeline
- Play the first two seconds: the hook line should appear immediately
- Select the caption track and set size, weight, outline, and safe position
- Keep one or two lines on screen; drag away from the username and like-bar
- Export with captions burned in if TikTok or Reels will get this file
If the whole track is a few frames early or late, grab the caption layer and nudge it. Do not retype the SRT. Retype only for a brand spelling, then re-import.
Worked example: 20-second finance tip
Script: “Stop paying UPI twice. Check the last four digits before you hit Pay.” Generate MP3 + SRT in Studio. In CapCut, audio sits on track 1, a screen recording of the UPI screen on track 2, imported SRT on the caption track. If “Stop paying UPI twice” appears at 00:04, you imported last week’s file. Swap the SRT. If it appears at 00:00 but sits on the pay button, move the captions up, don’t regenerate.
How to import an SRT file in CapCut mobile
Phone CapCut can import captions, but the control is easy to miss and it moves after updates. Try this order before you give up and switch to auto-captions.
- Update CapCut from the store, then reopen the same 9:16 project
- Confirm the voiceover is already on the timeline
- Tap Text or Captions, then look for Import / Captions file / SRT
- Grant file access if iOS or Android asks, then pick the .srt from Files / Drive
- Preview muted: hook line in the first two seconds
- Style for a phone held at arm length — bigger than you think
If Import is missing, the honest workaround is desktop CapCut or AirDrop / Google Drive the project. Auto-captions will re-transcribe a voice you already timed. That is extra cleanup, not a better file.
Style that survives a muted feed
- High contrast: light text plus a dark outline, or the reverse
- One idea per cue — a paragraph on screen gets skipped
- Leave the bottom fifth of the frame empty for app UI
- Don’t cover the face or the UI you are explaining
When YouTube Studio still matters
Import in CapCut if the same file also goes to TikTok or Reels. Upload the .srt in YouTube Studio when you want to fix a typo next week without exporting CapCut again.

- YouTube Studio → Content → the video → Subtitles / Captions
- Add the spoken language, then upload the same .srt
- Turn off auto-captions if you already burned text into the video, or you will see double captions
- Watch muted on a phone before you share the link
Troubleshooting the import
- Captions late or early: wrong SRT, or audio was trimmed after import — re-import the matching pair or nudge the track
- Nothing imports: file is not .srt, or cues lost their line breaks — paste into a text editor and restore the numbered format
- Hindi / Tamil boxes: file is not UTF-8 — re-export from Studio or save as UTF-8
- YouTube rejects the file: same format issue, or you uploaded .txt
- Double captions: burn-in plus YouTube auto both on — keep one
- Import missing on mobile: update the app or finish on desktop
Edit the SRT, nudge CapCut, or regenerate?
Spelling a brand wrong is a text-editor job. A new hook is a new generate. A track that is three frames late is a CapCut nudge. Mixing those three jobs is how people waste an evening.
